Samsung Exynos Boot repair

This document created at Mar 28, 2023, 8:01:38 AM and modified at Mar 7, 2024, 11:49:39 AM.

In this document, we are going to show you how to perform a Boot repair procedure on Samsung Exynos devices in EUB (Exynos USB Booting) mode.

We're supporting phones in Exynos USB Booting (EUB) mode from now, which is a low-level interface for devices equipped with Exynos SoCs. Similar to the Emergency Download Mode (EDL), which is available for Qualcomm SoCs. This mode is usually available on devices that cannot boot up, but is also accessible via hardware Test-Point. Via this port, It's possible to upload and boot to ODIN mode, which later can be used to flash the device with a firmware. We're currently supporting Samsung phones in this mode.

EUB mode is handled via UsbDk, you don't need to have a specific Exynos driver.

There are two methods of connecting the device in EUB mode.

Method 1

This is the Autodetect mode where you can connect the device using testpoint, while Chimera recognizes the phone.

This Auto detection mechanism does not work for every model, so we introduced a new method as well.

Method 2

This is called the  Device wizard. By using this panel you can select your phone model from the list, which will create a virtual device. Once you selected your device model from the list click on Create Virtual device. Keep in mind, do not connect the phone as of now.

Once the Virtual device had been created you will see the available procedures for it. You can select the Boot Repair procedure by clicking on the blue box.

Once you clicked on it, Chimera will ask you to provide a compatible firmware. The firmware has to be the same or higher binary than the current one. After it is done, click on Start. At this stage Chimera will ask you to connect the device using testpoint, once connected Chimera will continue the Boot Repair procedure and when successfully finished your phone will be booted into Download mode, where you can perform a Firmware update on it.
